No Lights No Lycra is a dance party in the dark for the pure joy of dancing.

It’s a DJ night that’s not at the club, a workout that’s not at the gym, a personal meditation that’s anything but silent.

Imagine dancing around your bedroom in your PJs, singing into a hairbrush. Now take that same feeling and put it into a dark room with tons of space, your friends, and a sweet sound system. That’s No Lights No Lycra.

NLNL is a substance-free, judgment-free event that started more than a decade ago in Australia and now happens in more than 50 communities all over the world, including right here in Austin, Texas.

WHERE: 3rd Eye Meditation Lounge, 1701 Toomey Road, Austin, TX 78704
WHEN: Every second and fourth Wednesday from 8-9:30pm
WHO: Anyone
COST: $15. Buy advance tickets from 3rd Eye, or just show up.

Here’s what you need to know before your first NLNL:

  • It doesn’t matter what you wear. Remember, it’s dark! Gym attire, loungewear—yes, even lycra if that’s what you’re feeling.
  • No alcohol, no drugs. No strangers hitting on you, no photos or instagramming what a good time you’re having—in fact, all phones and other glowy devices should be kept silent and in their un-glowy modes.
  • It’s open to all ages. You can reserve your spot on 3rd Eye’s class page, or just show up.
  • There’s a big parking lot across right the street with plenty of free parking.
  • People often come alone and dance alone (just like in all those songs).
  • The room is dark enough that you can’t make out the specifics of anyone else on the dance floor, but never so dark that you risk running into something.
  • Bring water—it’s a workout!
  • See even more FAQs on the global NLNL website if you’re curious.

No Lights No Lycra

  • is a place for people to come and dance freely in a friendly, non-threatening, drug and alcohol free atmosphere.
  • is an event that occurs in a dimly lit room: with the lights low people can truly dance without worrying about what they look like.
  • is a time to dance independently in the company of others – in order for people to truly lose themselves in the music it is important to keep talking to a minimum.
  • is not about technique and being a ‘good’ dancer, it’s about the experience of dancing with no one watching and the joy that this brings.
  • is a place to exercise at your own pace while having fun.
  • promotes a healthy mind and a healthy body.
  • is about making dance accessible for everyone.
  • It is an inclusive event – open to all ages, genders, backgrounds and demographics.
  • is a place to shake out the stresses of the week, let go of your inhibitions and completely be yourself.
