Lite + Brite: 49 Serpentine Austin Events 2/26
Hello, what’s up, and welcome to the Lite + Brite newsletter.
Okay, firstly and most importantly (to us): No Lights No Lycra, our dance party in the dark, is this evening, Wednesday! You can reserve a spot here or just show up. The lights go out just after 8pm.
We already mentioned this to our Patreon subscribers, but we feel compelled to mention it on main as well: We fear we have gotten TOO GOOD at our job, which is finding Austin events for you. We have this dim memory of a time, long ago, when there were a finite number of eligible events and this newsletter basically wrote itself. If such a time ever existed, it is now long gone.
But what are we supposed to do? Not tell you that the Opossum King and the Train Lord are back in the ring? Ignore drag and burlesque shows themed around D&D, muppets, slumber parties, pop princesses, and Texas state politics? Hide our knowledge that both the local ren faire and the local doom metal goat yoga are now back from their winter slumber? Neglect to mention that it’s still Black History Month (including a huge block party and bike tour), still Carnaval (including Brazilian music and dance), and still Mardi Gras (including brass bands in private backyards, other brass bands in bar backyards, and cool witches)? Pretend like this quintessentially Austin nonprofit isn’t hosting a sick launch party, or like “micro-opera” isn’t a thing?
Sorry, we can’t do that. Guess we’re just going to have to keep sending you super-long newsletters. Don’t hate the player; hate the game.
If you’re not already a subscriber to this newsletter and you want to be, click here. We do one newsletter a week, usually on Fridays, plus a bonus edition around the start of each month. If you enjoy this newsletter, please support us by contributing to our Patreon and by forwarding this email to your friends who enjoy things like listening to music and leaving the house sometimes.
Let’s do fun stuff!

OUR STUFF
TONIGHT we’re holding No Lights No Lycra at 3rd Eye Meditation Lounge! We’re taking the 2nd Wednesday in March off to do SxSW so this is the last chance to dance in the dark until March 26th. Grab a ticket here and scroll down for a recording of the last time we held it.
We’re getting ready to head back east to where Brian began DJing during his college years for a reunion party, so for the occasion Brian did an episode of No Humans Allowed devoted to 00s electroclash + electro. What is No Lights No Lycra?
Austin’s twice-monthly, judgment-free, substance-free, high-impact dance thing in the dark. It’s a DJ night that’s not at the club, a workout that’s not at the gym, a personal meditation that’s anything but silent. It’s produced by us, your kindly L+B overlords, and usually one or the other of us is on the hook for DJ duties. Read more about it in the Austin Chronicle. You can listen to the kind of music we play over on Brian’s Mixcloud.

ABOUT US
How do we choose which events to feature?
Honestly, it’s pretty random. We might include anything in Austin that we, personally, would conceivably want to go to, generally excluding normal concerts, comedy shows, and movie showtimes because there are many other good resources for finding those. (We especially recommend Showlist for live music, The Darker Side of Austin for goth and metal stuff, Concept Animals’ ATX Art for You for gallery openings + artist talks, and the 60+ Weirdest Things in Austin for exactly what it sounds like). This list is by no means exhaustive; it’s just stuff that caught our eye this week. If you have an event that you want us to consider including, send it over.
Who are we?
We are Leila + Brian. We make this newsletter. We do our own events, most often No Lights No Lycra, + also BYOT, a party where we share very good YouTubes (here’s a playlist from the last one). We go very hard seeing bands at SxSW (here are playlists of our favorites from 2024). We once got called “local Austin couple” by KXAN. We do some other stuff here and there. We love going out to creative events in Austin, and we want you to join us. Visit us at liteandbriteatx.com, and support us on Patreon if you like what we do.
