Lite + Brite: 47 Haute Austin Events 11/8
Hello, what’s up, and welcome to the Lite + Brite newsletter.
Well, it’s been a week. We expect many of you, like us, are experiencing a great deal of emotion right now given the events of the wider world. There’s lots of ways to cope with that. You can do like I did and bury your head in some work this week. You can also get out there into the world and participate in it, and engage with the community we have here in Austin. I’d like to draw special attention to Tex Support, an event we’ve listed a couple times before but never has it been more appropriate than now. It’s an event that aims to help Texans (that’s us) foster community and process what’s going on in our state’s political landscape.
Alternately, maybe you’re not looking to hit things on the nose so squarely and you’d just like to get out of the house, or get distracted by some art. Well, if this describes you then you’re in luck. Austin Studio Tour is happening this and next weekend (Leila wrote a guide), the Creek Show is showing neon art, and there is much to do. Check out pig art, community art, artists transforming a garage with art made from natural components, or nude art in a shed. There are emo puppets, italo disco DJs, fantasy synth fests, ren faire-style ruckuses, tough cyclists, rapid dancers, stuffed animal organs, vampire artists, racing armadillos, and that’s just for starters.
If you’re not already a subscriber to this newsletter and you want to be, click here. We do one newsletter a week, usually on Fridays, plus a bonus edition around the start of each month. If you enjoy this newsletter, please support us by contributing to our Patreon and by forwarding this email to your friends who enjoy things like listening to music and leaving the house sometimes.
Let’s do fun stuff!

OUR STUFF
This coming Wednesday is No Lights No Lycra at 3rd Eye Meditation Lounge, and we anticipate getting out a lot of feels on the darkened dance floor. We’ve been listening to a lot of Gil Scott-Heron + Gang of Four if that gives you any indication. You can get an advance ticket for Wednesday here. We’re also excited to be putting on No Lights No Lycra at Sky Candy as well this month, on Friday November 22nd. As usual we’ve got a playlist below if you want to hear what a typical NLNL sounds like.
No Humans Allowed, Brian’s radio show, fell on Election Day last week so there was no show. It’ll return this Tuesday at 6pm on Kpiss.fm, and there’s info on the most recent show (a Halloween one) below.

ABOUT US
How do we choose which events to feature?
Honestly, it’s pretty random. We might include anything in Austin that we, personally, would conceivably want to go to, generally excluding normal concerts, comedy shows, and movie showtimes because there are many other good resources for finding those. (We especially recommend Showlist for live music, The Darker Side of Austin for goth and metal stuff, and the 60+ Weirdest Things in Austin for exactly what it sounds like). This list is by no means exhaustive; it’s just stuff that caught our eye this week. If you have an event that you want us to consider including, send it over.
Who are we?
We are Leila + Brian. We make this newsletter. We do our own events, most often No Lights No Lycra (which is on hiatus but will resume), + also BYOT, a party where we share very good YouTubes (here’s a playlist from the last one). We go very hard seeing bands at SxSW (here are playlists of our favorites from 2024). We once got called “local Austin couple” by KXAN. We do some other stuff here and there. We love going out to creative events in Austin, and we want you to join us. Visit us at liteandbriteatx.com, and support us on Patreon if you like what we do.
