Lite + Brite: 41 Infernal Austin Events 11/1
Hello, what’s up, and welcome to the Lite + Brite newsletter.
Halloween is finally behind us… or is it? Like a horror villain at the end of the movie, you can never really escape Halloween (until it’s Christmas anyway) so spooky season continues to bleed (get it) into November. So it’s not too late to get creepy by watching silent horror films with new live soundtracks and Thom Yorke-infused soundtracks, or talkies with symphonic soundtracks. You can take in some occult-based burlesque, Dante-themed theater, and get into all manner of post-Halloween Halloween hijinx.
And then as soon as you know an even more terrifying event begins – the election. Manage your anxiety by working out with Erica Nix, or by partying with a whole bunch of cool people, some clowns doing burlesque, + also a petting zoo at Cheer Ups. Or just distract yourself with gay flag football, art and falconry, a Scott Stapp impression contest, Highland Games, get pervy about words, hear string orchestras play songs of resistance, or raise money for reproductive rights by watching bands + listening to storytellers. We’re here to provide an all-encompassing list of event-based coping mechanisms to help you through this election.
Now, can we ask you do to one little thing? Please go vote (if you haven’t already).

ABOUT US
How do we choose which events to feature?
Honestly, it’s pretty random. We might include anything in Austin that we, personally, would conceivably want to go to, generally excluding normal concerts, comedy shows, and movie showtimes because there are many other good resources for finding those. (We especially recommend Showlist for live music, The Darker Side of Austin for goth and metal stuff, and the 60+ Weirdest Things in Austin for exactly what it sounds like). This list is by no means exhaustive; it’s just stuff that caught our eye this week. If you have an event that you want us to consider including, send it over.
Who are we?
We are Leila + Brian. We make this newsletter. We do our own events, most often No Lights No Lycra (which is on hiatus but will resume), + also BYOT, a party where we share very good YouTubes (here’s a playlist from the last one). We go very hard seeing bands at SxSW (here are playlists of our favorites from 2024). We once got called “local Austin couple” by KXAN. We do some other stuff here and there. We love going out to creative events in Austin, and we want you to join us. Visit us at liteandbriteatx.com, and support us on Patreon if you like what we do.
