Lite + Brite: 39 Ssssnakey Austin Events 9/13
Hello, what’s up, and welcome to the Lite + Brite newsletter.
We are writing this from New York City, where we are sadly a time zone away from all the excellent events happening this weekend. We’re also very busy trying to visit friends and see stuff, so we’ll keep this intro short. If you’re ever in NYC and you wonder if they have something similar to this newsletter: they do (and some were our inspiration for starting L+B)! We highly recommend The Skint, Nonsense NYC, and the New York Groove.
Meanwhile, back in Austin, y’all have so many things to pick from, we’re getting jealous compiling this list. Friday the 13th shall be commemorated with tea and with DJs. There will be a colossal art projection. Arthropod cosplayers will be LARPing. Dungeon synth bands take over a convenience store. Latte drawing skills will be on display. Fire dancers do their thing amid crystals and mediums. Downtown turns into a street fair. Goths get into italo disco (+ other dark synth genres). Geckos provide therapy, snake fans do snake yoga then go herping, and much, much more. Basically your typical week. All right we gotta go shove two pie slices together + eat them like true Broolynites. Have fun!
If you’re not already a subscriber to this newsletter and you want to be, click here. We do one newsletter a week, usually on Fridays, plus a bonus edition around the start of each month. If you enjoy this newsletter, please support us by contributing to our Patreon and by forwarding this email to your friends who enjoy things like listening to music and leaving the house sometimes.
Let’s do fun stuff!

OUR STUFF
We’ve been mentioning that No Lights No Lycra will return on September 25th. Well now we have a link to tickets if you wanna buy them in advance (which we’d appreciate as it’s hard to buy tickets in the pitch black). If you missed it, NLNL will be at 3rd Eye Meditation Lounge which is located at Casa de Luz. We’ll be dancing in the dark from 8 – 930 and the cover is $15. We also made this month’s L+B playlist in an homage to No Lights No Lycra so it’s a panoply of genres and ping pongs between known and unknown just like the party.
Since we’re moving NLNL to alternating Wednesdays, No Humans Allowed is moving to Tuesdays starting September 24th. There was no show this week as we were traveling but the show will return next for a final Wednesday edition before the big move. Some fun plans in the works including an interview with a local musician, we’ll have more about that here soon.

ABOUT US
How do we choose which events to feature?
Honestly, it’s pretty random. We might include anything in Austin that we, personally, would conceivably want to go to, generally excluding normal concerts, comedy shows, and movie showtimes because there are many other good resources for finding those. (We especially recommend Showlist for live music, The Darker Side of Austin for goth and metal stuff, and the 60+ Weirdest Things in Austin for exactly what it sounds like). This list is by no means exhaustive; it’s just stuff that caught our eye this week. If you have an event that you want us to consider including, send it over.
Who are we?
We are Leila + Brian. We make this newsletter. We do our own events, most often No Lights No Lycra (which is on hiatus but will resume), + also BYOT, a party where we share very good YouTubes (here’s a playlist from the last one). We go very hard seeing bands at SxSW (here are playlists of our favorites from 2024). We once got called “local Austin couple” by KXAN. We do some other stuff here and there. We love going out to creative events in Austin, and we want you to join us. Visit us at liteandbriteatx.com, and support us on Patreon if you like what we do.
