Lite + Brite: 37 Galactic Austin Events 9/28
Hello, what’s up, and welcome to the Lite + Brite newsletter.
At the start of every week I’m like, “Hmm, not sure I’ll have many events to list, looks like it’s gonna be a quiet one,” and then by the time the newsletter actually comes out I’ve somehow stumbled across three dozen events that we must include. Super unclear how this happens, or why I am surprised by it every single time.
Anyway, some things I wanted to call out this week: An all-day DIY mini-golf tournament is taking over more than a dozen east side bars on Saturday, and I dare you to tell me a better way to explore this neighborhood. Blue Lapis Light is staging a new aerial dance performance, and, while I haven’t seen this one, I’ve been awed by their previous work. It’s the opening weekend for a production of Twelfth Night, which we would not necessarily list; however, it’s in a historically accurate Elizabethan theatre modeled after the Globe, and if there’s one thing we love it is site-specific performances!
Almost Real Things, one of our favorite local arts organizations, is running a party bus to vintage shops, and the Museum of Human Achievement, another one of our favorite local arts organizations, is screening a video montage of people falling down paired with spaghetti dinner. (Unclear whether the spaghetti dinner is served to the viewers or if it is also on the screen?) Y’all love an animal event, so you probably would have noticed these even if we didn’t mention them in the intro, but this week brings opportunities to paint with goats and to watch dachshunds dash. Oh, and did you think that zines were a thing of the past? Well, they’re not! And it should go without saying that, somewhere, there will be lube wrestling. Also, tonight we’re hosting No Lights No Lycra! For details on all this and much more, scroll down.

OUR STUFF
Guess what? No Lights No Lycra, our very own dance party in the dark, is happening tonight at 8pm at West China Tea! We had to skip the last NLNL due to travel snafus, so we are extra-excited to be back on the darkened dance floor with you. Wondering what sort of music you might hear? Listen to a playlist of music from our last edition here or scroll to the bottom of this newsletter for a track listing.
No Humans Allowed couldn’t happen this week because of internet connectivity probs (womp womp), but if you are in need of a fix, check out the archives. NHA will be back live every Wednesday (as long as the internet is working) at 6pm CT on kpiss.fm.
What is No Lights No Lycra?
Austin’s twice-monthly, judgment-free, substance-free, high-impact dance thing in the dark. It’s a DJ night that’s not at the club, a workout that’s not at the gym, a personal meditation that’s anything but silent. It’s produced by us, your kindly L+B overlords, and usually one or the other of us is on the hook for DJ duties. Read more about us in the Austin Chronicle. You can listen the kind of music we play over on Brian’s Mixcloud.

ABOUT US
How do we choose which events to feature?
Honestly, it’s pretty random. We might include anything in Austin that we, personally, would conceivably want to go to, generally excluding normal concerts, comedy shows, and movie showtimes because there are many other good resources for finding those. (We especially recommend Showlist for live music, The Darker Side of Austin for goth and metal stuff, and the 60+ Weirdest Things in Austin for exactly what it sounds like). This list is by no means exhaustive; it’s just stuff that caught our eye this week. If you have an event that you want us to consider including, send it over.
Who are we?
We make this newsletter. We put on No Lights No Lycra every second and fourth Thursday of the month. We do some other stuff here and there. We love going out to creative events in Austin, and we want you to join us. Visit us at liteandbriteatx.com, and support us on Patreon if you like what we do.
