Lite + Brite: 31 Good Timey Austin Events 8/4
Hello, what’s up, and welcome to the Lite + Brite newsletter.
We find events to list in this newsletter from a wide variety of sources: we check Eventbrite, Instagram, and Facebook; we subscribe to newsletters for every local cultural institution that sends them; we roam around town and look at flyers; and we take suggestions! For example, tonight there’s a grown-ups only night at a waterpark, which we learned about thanks to one of our fabulous subscribers, who posted about it on the L+B Discord. We don’t list every suggestion, but we are grateful for every one that we receive.
Tonight, we’ve on our way to “unlock the secrets of plant-mycelial communication.” Tomorrow, we’ve got tickets to an old-timey backyard carnival complete with water games, weird marionettes, tie-dye, knife throwing (?), et cetera. Sunday there is a very good chance we will hit up “the queerest kickoff to Austin Pride Month” and/or this event featuring our favorite local celebrities—aka the wrestlers of Slam Portal—who will be judging wrestling impersonations. And obviously Thursday we will be dancing up a storm at our own event, No Lights No Lycra! Scroll down for details on all this and more.
If you’re not already a subscriber to this newsletter and you want to be, click here. We do one newsletter a week, usually on Fridays, plus a bonus edition around the start of each month. Please support us by contributing to our Patreon and by forwarding this email to your friends who enjoy things like listening to music and leaving the house sometimes.
Let’s do fun stuff!

OUR STUFF
This coming Thursday, we’ll be at West China Tea House for No Lights No Lycra. We’ll be continuing to dance through the dusk into the dark, and we’ve been using some creative lighting ideas and sunset-appropriate tunes. You can listen to a playlist of music from July’s edition here or scroll to the bottom of this newsletter for a track listing.
This week, the robots of No Humans Allowed are pumping iron in the robo-gymnasium, so Brian made them a playlist of high energy songs about engaging your core, running faster, and fully extending your reps. Listen to Pumping Iron on the KPISS archives, or scroll down for the full tracklist + some of the goofiest episode art yet. NHA is live every Wednesday at 6pm CT on kpiss.fm.

SOCIALS

ABOUT US
How do we choose which events to feature?
Honestly, it’s pretty random. We might include anything in Austin that we, personally, would conceivably want to go to, generally excluding normal concerts, comedy shows, and movie showtimes because there are many other good resources for finding those. (We especially recommend Showlist for live music, The Darker Side of Austin for goth and metal stuff, and the 60+ Weirdest Things in Austin for exactly what it sounds like). This list is by no means exhaustive; it’s just stuff that caught our eye this week. If you have an event that you want us to consider including, send it over.
Who are we?
We make this newsletter. We put on No Lights No Lycra every second and fourth Thursday of the month. We do some other stuff here and there. We love going out to creative events in Austin, and we want you to join us. Visit us at liteandbriteatx.com, and support us on Patreon if you like what we do.
